What each column means
| Column | Meaning |

| observation_id | Stable public id of the report; also its /sighting/<id> page. |
| species | Reported species id: feral_cats, feral_pigs, mongoose, axis_deer, goats, chickens, crb, coqui, little_fire_ant, rose_ringed_parakeet, roadkill, predation or other. |
| observed_species_id | For roadkill reports, the animal the reporter identified; otherwise empty. |
| record_kind | sighting, survey, sign, mortality or legacy_unclassified. Cat feeding reports (feeding_activity, feeding_resource) are map only and are not in these files. |
| observation_day | Calendar day of the observation in Hawaiʻi time (YYYY-MM-DD). |
| island | hawaii, maui, oahu, kauai, molokai, lanai, niihau, kahoolawe, or empty. |
| cell_id | H3 resolution-9 cell (about 0.1 km²) containing the reported location. |
| privacy_resolution | Always 9: the H3 resolution every location is generalized to. |
| center_lat | Latitude of the cell center, not of the observation. |
| center_lng | Longitude of the cell center, not of the observation. |
| best_count | Reported animal count when one applies; empty for signs, mortality and unknown counts. |
| count_method | exact, estimate, minimum or unknown. |
| count_min | Lower bound of an estimated count, when given. |
| count_max | Upper bound of an estimated count, when given. |
| zero_detection | true when a survey found no animals. |
| verified | true when the latest review is an independent verified decision on the current report revision; otherwise false. |
| permalink | Public page for the report on feralmap.com. |
GeoJSON features carry the map projection's point properties (every CSV column except permalink, plus report_count); their geometry is the cell center as a point.
What is and is not published
- Published: species, kind of observation, reported count, observation day, island, and the H3 resolution-9 cell (about 0.1 km²) that contains the location.
- Never published: exact coordinates, free-text notes, photos, reporter names or contact details, or licence plates.
- Reports a reviewer rejected are not included. Reports still under review are included; the verified column marks reports a reviewer independently verified.
- A location a resident asked to withhold is left out of every snapshot generated after the withhold takes effect.
- Cat feeding reports (feeding activity and feeding resources) are map only: they appear on the live map at the same cell size but are not in these files. Researchers can request them under a data agreement.

Use the files under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 with this attribution:

Add the manifest's generated_at value to the citation so readers know which nightly snapshot you used.
API
The same projection is available live, filtered by species, kind, date and island, at /api/explore/map and per cell at /api/explore/cells/{cell}. The public schema is at /api/openapi.json. Responses are generalized the same way as the files; no public route returns exact locations.
Agencies and researchers
FeralMap does not send reports to any agency. If your program needs a different cut of the data under a data-sharing agreement, write to contact@nene.org. Read the terms and privacy policy for what contributors agreed to.
