Chickens in Hawaiʻi
Gallus gallus
Feral chickens live in parks, parking lots and neighbourhoods across the islands. A shared map of where flocks are seen, and whether they grow, is useful to neighbours and to anyone planning what to do about them.
What to report
- A flock, with a rough count and whether chicks were present.
- Roosting sites and places where people feed chickens.
- The same flock again on a later visit.
Not this
- Chickens in a coop or fenced yard are livestock.
A report is one observation at one place and time. It is not a count of animals and not an estimate of how many live there.

Common questions
- Will DOFAW remove chickens from my property?
- DOFAW says it cannot control animals on private property. FeralMap records where flocks are, nothing more.
