Pigs in Hawaiʻi
Sus scrofa
Feral pigs root up forest floors and gardens and leave wallows behind. They are hunted as game animals under DOFAW rules. FeralMap records where people see pigs and their sign, so repeat visits build a picture of where they are active.
What to report
- Live pigs, with a count if you can make one.
- Fresh rooting, wallows or trails, even if you saw no animal (report it as sign).
- Pigs in neighbourhoods, parks or on roads.
Not this
- Small, shallow digging is often from other animals; pig rooting turns over whole patches of ground.
A report is one observation at one place and time. It is not a count of animals and not an estimate of how many live there.
